What is Clomid?
Clomid (clomiphene citrate) is one of the most widely prescribed drugs for treating women infertility. Classified as a SERM , Clomid binds with the estrogen receptor to block estrogen and is effective in stimulating LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (Follicle stimulating hormone) to release testosterone.
It is a combination of geometric isomers [cis (zuclomiphene) and trans (enclomiphene)] including of abut 30-50 percent of the cis-isomer. Clomid has the chemical name of 2-[p-(2-chloro-1,2-diphenylvinyl)phenoxy] triethylamine citrate (1:1) and the molecular formula of C32H36ClNO8 (citrate) or C26H28ClNO.
Available in oral as well as injectable form, Clomid has an elimination half life of 5-7 days. Tablets of Clomid include Clomiphene citrate USP as the active ingredient and magnesium stearate, pregelatinized corn starch, lactose, and corn starch as the inactive ingredient.
The antiestrogen is also beneficial for minimizing the side effects of muscle tissue damage induced by exercises besides being useful for improving blood cholesterol. This antiestrogen is a huge hit with sportsmen on steroids who have a history of excess estrogen formation leading to side effects such as fluid retention, gynecomastia, oily skin, and acne. How is Clomid used?
The ideal dosage of Clomid is 50 mg per day for a continuing period of five days. The dosage can, thereafter, be increased as per medical advice. It can also be used in doses of 150 mg per day for a period of ten days followed by doses of 50 mg every ten days till the 30th day.
Adverse effects
When taken in doses exceeding the normal, Clomid use can turn into Clomid abuse and may result in side effects like vaginal dryness, loss of hair, fatigue, discomfort in breast, and ovarian enlargement. It is highly recommended that you seek medical advice before initiating the use of Clomid so that you can avoid these side effects.
Post-Cycle Therapy (PCT)
This drug is not a steroidal agent and it is used during post-cycle therapy.
